The future of energy...
...already started long ago for us. We are pursuing very promising innovations in the area of decentralised energy generation, and regenerative energy sources, such as hydropower and geothermal energy, play an important role in it.
New ideas for tomorrow’s energy supply
EnBW has already been focussing on hydropower for a long time now as a form of regenerative energy generation. While the national average for producing electricity in hydropower plants is only 3.5%, we already produce 10 % of our electricity in run-of-river power plants and the natural flow into pumped-storage power plants.
The fuel cell is also one of the very promising technologies of the future. EnBW is doing pioneering work developing it to the production stage. We have experience from more than 20 test plants and we also have pioneering households in Baden-Württemberg equipped with this innovative technology.
Geothermal energy is also one of tomorrow’s forms of energy. As a renewable form of energy, it is particularly valuable from an energy efficiency point of view, as it is always available. One of the main points of our research focuses on opening up geothermal heat located deep underground. For this purpose, we invest in the construction of geothermal power plants. The geothermal heat close to the earth’s surface can already be used today: for heating and cooling with geothermal heat pumps. We are also continuously developing this form of energy production and usage.
