2nd German Conference on Climate Change of the EnBW Energie Baden-Württem-
berg AG
“The Economics of Climate Change”
Nobel Peace Prize Winner Al Gore was in Berlin
Al Gore was in Berlin, Germany. The former vice president of the United States of America attended the climate congress of the EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. Gore, who received the renowned Oscar film award at the beginning of the year for his climate documentation “An Inconvenient Truth”, presented his world-shaking presentation and held a subsequent question and answer session at the 2nd German Climate Conference “The Economics of Climate Change”.
Al Gore is whole-hearted in his support for EnBW`s commitment
“EnBW is performing pioneering work. I am especially pleased with such endeavors, since we require the support from the economy. Only by working together will we manage to bring the challenge of the century - climate change - under control. In a democracy, the political will is a renewable resource and EnBW manages to repeatedly initiate this will. That is an excellent development.”
Continued discourse
With the 2nd German Climate Congress “The Economics of Climate Change”, EnBW is continuing its discourse on climate change. Back in September 2006, EnBW organized the 1st German Climate Congress and was thus the first commercial enterprise to establish a successful platform for promoting exchange between representatives from the political, business and scientific communities.
Renowned Participants
In addition to Gore, other personalities from the scientific, business and political arena attended, for example, Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and other renowned participants from China, India and the United States participated in the Climate Congress.
The 2nd German Conference on Climate Change, like its predecessor, is advised by a panel of experts. These experts include Prof. Hans Joachim “John“ Schellnhuber and Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) as well as Prof. Mojib Latif (IFM GEOMAR).
Not only risks but also opportunities
The one-day congress revolved around “The Economics of Climate Change”. Since the economic dimension has been obvious since, at the very latest, the “Stern” report was published: climate protection measures are expensive; however, the consequential costs of an unchecked climate change are even higher. Therefore not only is the serious debate concerning climate change a matter of social responsibility, but it also belongs to core business. EnBW is convinced that commercial enterprises will play a decisive role in developing a solution. We see not only risks but also market opportunities.
