Climate protection at EnBW: neat and tidy work.
EnBW is the energy producer with the lowest CO2 emissions – something we have done a lot to achieve. By implementing comprehensive modernising measures, we have significantly increased the energy efficiency of our power plants. That means that we produce more electricity with less emissions .
The way in which we generate energy ensures a good climate: Our electricity mix consists of just 23.8 % fossil fuels and other energy sources, which is still a very low proportion and means that our CO2 emissions are about 50 % lower than the German electricity mix determined by the Verband der Elektrizitätswirtschaft - VDEW e.V [German Electricity Association]. In virtually no metropolitan area with a high traffic volume is it currently possible to stick to the limits for fine dust in the air. We deal with this acute problem using the most up-to-date filtering technology in our desulphurisation plants. Using a so-called wet scrubber we filter, apart from sulphur, dust at the same time from the flue gas. This means that even coal-fired power plants emit very little dust and do not increase the amount of fine dust in the air.
EnBW started an international series of conferences with the “BerlinSummer Conference on Energy“, in which scientists and energy experts discuss themes such as the liberalisation of the electricity markets or emission trading. Furthermore, we encourage “Transatlantic Dialogue on Climate Change”. These regular conferences offer the opportunity for dialogue on the latest developments in transatlantic climate politics.
