Biogas from organic waste - Vacuum-drying and extraction

For many years now, biogas, which is a high-quality, versatile, renewable and environmentally-friendly energy source, has been produced through fermentation of organic waste products. Today, the production of biogas with conventional processes takes about three weeks. The objective of a research project by the EnBW subsidiary U-plus Umweltservice AG is to reduce this time to about two to four days and simultaneously harness so-called soft biomass for general exploitation. In the long term, organic waste can in this way be transformed into a valuable energy source with a high efficiency factor.

Vacuum boiling drying works according to the same principle as vacuum extraction. Here, too, the corresponding material is subjected to heat in a vacuum. The objective is to dry the material i.e. the remaining extracted solid materials, the solid fermentation residue as well as the untreated waste material or energy plants. Vacuum drying can be applied after vacuum extraction or independently.
