Disposal of foundry sands

Foundry sand is residue from steel production which often contains pollutants making it a real problem for industry. For the specialists of the U-plus group, however, waste management problems such as these are a special challenge. A customer's problem is turned into an innovative and marketable product.

The recent amendment to the German Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control stipulates that large foundries in particular must reduce dust emissions to comply with labour and environmental protection legislation. This has had far-reaching implications on the treatment of foundry sands and our logistical concept. Especially open handling of polluted foundry sands in industrial plants requires special technical solutions. Because the sands can enter the lungs and are contaminated with heavy metals and organic binding agents we must observe environmental protection and health regulations. For this purpose, S-plus, a company of the EnBW Group, developed a new process.
