Qualification of secondary fuels

Secondary fuels are used "twice" in the true sense of the word. Most objects are thrown away following primary usage. If they are used as energy sources for firing power stations, however, they replace primary fuels such as coal or oil. Today, new technologies and concepts can therefore turn waste into an environmentally-friendly material which prevents depletion of resources.

After two years of project work, a plant has now been built in Karlsruhe which transforms mixed waste from construction sites as well as commercial waste into a fluffy fuel which preserves resources and has been awarded an industrial seal of approval. Due to its high share of regenerative materials of about 45 % it can contribute significantly to reducing CO2 emissions which are harmful to the environment.
