Innovative micro gas turbines for small and medium-sized companies
Micro gas turbines (MGTs) are about 1,000 times smaller than the gas turbines used for central cogen plants for large technical applications. MGTs produce few pollutants, are efficient, can be easily installed, and require little maintenance. For this reason, they are especially suitable for supplying small and medium-sized companies as well as apartment blocks and hospitals with energy.
EnBW is currently testing micro gas turbines at two locations in a demonstration operation. The first micro gas turbine was put into service at our partner Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG (municipal utilities) in Flingern in June 2003. It has an electrical capacity of 100 kW and a thermal capacity of 160 kW. A second MGT will be installed at Robert-Bosch-Hospital in Stuttgart in early 2004. It functions as a topping turbine and supplies the combustion air for the boiler. It was tested successfully by EDF before being put into service. EnBW operates one of the first systems with topping turbine technology in the world.
