Electronic measurement data acquisition for efficient energy invoicing
On today's energy market customers can choose between a number of suppliers and rates. Countless networks, suppliers, and service providers require absolute security and clarity with respect to measuring and invoicing power consumption. Together with other energy suppliers, industry, authorities, and universities, EnBW is developing and testing the Secure Electronic Measurement Data Exchange system called SELMA.
This unique project follows a guideline of the Federal Metrology Institute (PTB) which stipulates that measuring data must be safe and comprehensible and comply with consumer protection legislation and therefore must have an electronic signature." SELMA equips meters with a security chip which is similar to those used in mobile phones and credit cards. The chip contains a digital signature key which has been designed in such a way that it will still be valid and secure to use in twenty years. The meter data are read out via the telephone, GSM or the Internet by means of a communications module.
