Hydropower

Hydropower can be used in the long-term, does not deplete primary energy sources, and does not produce carbon dioxide. EnBW has been involved in this kind of renewable energy generation for a long time and has the highest share of hydropower in its energy mix in Germany. Although hydropower in Germany is very well established, the German Renewable Energies Law affords further development potential, especially for large hydropower stations. EnBW will support this development.

Hydropower plants fulfill numerous other tasks in addition to energy generation. One especially important function in view of the increasing number of floods in Europe is their contribution to flood protection, regulation of flowing water, storage of drinking water, and creation of leisure spaces.
