Commercial Challenges

Since the availability of fossil fuels is reducing and the use of nuclear energy is to be phased out within a specified time frame, today's energy mix will change. Renewable energies will therefore play an important role in future power generation.

EnBW wants to take a leading role in the area of renewable energies and is relying heavily on Baden-Wurttemberg's natural regional resources: the use of large-scale hydropower plants and biomass and in the long-term geothermal heat. These technologies are suited to cover basic loads.

Essential criteria for the use of renewable energies are competitiveness and commercial viability. Both factors depend heavily on where the energy is generated. By systematically testing technologies in the area of renewable energies, EnBW and its partners have in the meantime achieved significant improvements in efficiency.
