The Power Pioneers
The Group

Our role in the Group: Energy turntable of the EnBW

Today, ETG acts as a risk manager whose task is to control all the market risks faced by the EnBW-Group, in particular quantity and price risks. It must direct the Group's value-added chain and its points of contact with the markets in a continuous risk management process. The risk assessment is based on very high standards.

ETG is responsible for:

  • Trading in physical and financial products for electricity, gas, coal, oil and CO2-certificates on the wholesale market
  • Fuel procurement and logistics for the EnBW-power station pool
  • Emission rights management for the EnBW-power station pool
  • Deployment and control of the power stations (dispatching)
  • Covering the energy needs of the EnBW-sales units

When, a few years ago, ETG came up with the idea of combining the trading and power station controlling activities in one company, as the first trading company in Germany to do so, this set a standard in the market. And this idea has proved its value - not only in the EnBW-Group but also in other German energy supply companies which have restructured their organisations in similar ways.

As a synergy effect of its core tasks, ETG applies its energy-management competence and market know-how for the benefit of the entire EnBW-Group, e.g. for projects such as the construction of new power stations. Moreover, EnBW Trading GmbH is involved in the development of new sales products and strategies for the innovative development of new markets.
