History

EnBW Trading GmbH (ETG) was founded at the end of 1997 as EnBW Gesellschaft für Stromhandel mbH and started trading with physical and financial power products in the German and international markets in 1998. Three years later, the company expanded its trading activities to include the gas sector and in 2002 it again expanded its range to include option trading.

EnBW was the first German energy company to consistently orient its organisation on an integrated risk management concept so that it also handed over the responsibility for the planning and control of the power station deployment in conjunction with the production of district heat to its power trading company.

The company's scope of activities was expanded again one year later: The responsibility for the fuel trade was transferred to the company, which since then has also organised the procurement of coal and oil for the company's own power stations.

The objective behind the bundling of these central tasks a few years ago was to concentrate and manage all market price risks at one company within the EnBW-Group. This also involved focussing the most important energy-management competences and access to the market into one organisational unit. It was therefore a logical move to rename EnBW Gesellschaft für Stromhandel mbH into EnBW Trading GmbH in September 2004.

At the start of 2005, ETG commenced with the international trade of CO2-emission certificates and also integrated this trade segment into the risk controlling and management strategy. Since the end of 2006 the company has also been active in the CDM business field. 

Today we also offer our risk management competence e.g. for gas trade activities within the EnBW-Group.

Our highly qualified and motivated team, which comprises members from almost 10 nations, plays a major role in the success of ETG and the Group as a whole, thanks to its high level of competence, interdisciplinary approach and innovative ideas.
