EEX Transparency Platform Improved Further

Generation from conventional energy sources as well as wind and solar energy at a glance – Additional degree of coverage for data reported voluntarily – Improvement of user friendliness –Status messages for technical problems in reporting

Berlin, Dortmund, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Bayreuth, 13th December 2010 – The “Transparency in Energy Market“ platform (www.transparency.eex.com) for generation and consumption data begins the year with further improvements. The new release rounds off the successful first year of the transparency platform.

While the messages were provided under different menu items in the past, the planned and actual generation of power from conventional energy carriers and from wind and solar energy can now be retrieved and compared at a glance on the starting page. This makes the interaction between the different energy sources and their importance in the German energy mix transparent with to-the-hour accuracy.

In line with the degree of coverage which is already achieved for the statutory publication requirements, the degree of coverage is now also supplemented for the voluntary publications.

In the framework of the improved user friendliness and clarity, scheduled and unscheduled non-availabilities are presented in an aggregated graphic form. In this way, power plant outages can be seen at a glance more quickly and easily.

Experience has shown that the introduction of status messages regarding technical problems in reporting of data is sensible because of the large number of reporting companies. In the future, an anonymised overview displays whether reported data – which is shown according to the type of message, period of time concerned and downtime – is incomplete because of technical problems.

The expansions which are visible to the outside world are supplemented by numerous optimisations facilitating the operation of the platform and, hence, further improving its quality (e.g. additional plausibility checks).

“Transparency in Energy Markets“ is the central and neutral platform for energy market data which fulfils the statutory publication requirements and implements voluntary commitments of the market participants. The transparency platform for generation and consumption data (www.transparency.eex.com ) was established by EEX together with the four German transmission system operators - 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG und TenneT TSO GmbH - in intensive cooperation with the associations BDEW, VKU, VIK and the Federal Network Agency as well as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. EEX is in charge of the operation of the platform, which comprises plausibility checking, anonymisation, aggregation and publication of the data reported in addition to support for the reporting companies and users. Currently, 22 companies report on the platform. The degree of coverage amounts to 85 percent.
