Lost energy is needed to compensate for unpreventable physical transmission losses when transporting electricity. As a transmission grid operator, EnBW Transportnetze AG must balance the grid losses that occur in its grid, i.e. purchase it in a market-oriented and non-discriminatory process.
As a transmission grid operator, EnBW Transportnetze AG makes its 380 / 220 kV transmission grid available to all market participants for transporting electricity under transparent and non-discriminatory conditions. As a neutral entity involved in the electricity market, it is thus creating the foundations for competition in Germany and Europe in cooperation with other national and European transmission grid operators. The transmission grid area of EnBW Transportnetze AG comprises a geographic area of 34,600 km2 and a total circuit length of 3,610 km.
