The EU Commission approves an increased shareholding in the Düsseldorf Municipal Utilities
Karlsruhe. The European Commission has approved the purchase of 25.05 percent of the shares of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG by EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. After EnBW had notified the European Commission of its increased shareholding, it was decided in a simplified proceeding that the purchase of the shares conforms to the Common Market and the EEA Agreement. This decision means that there is nothing left to stop the transfer of the shares under competition law. After the shareholdings have been transferred, EnBW will own 54.95 percent and thus the majority of the Düsseldorf Municipal Utilities.
EnBW sees this as a positive decision, as it clears the way for now consistently meeting the joint objectives of the Düsseldorf Municipal Utilities and EnBW. The Düsseldorf Municipal Utilities are an important cornerstone in EnBW’s municipal utilities strategy. Together with the city of Düsseldorf, EnBW wants to further strengthen the municipal utilities and thus also Düsseldorf’s position on the energy market and also use any growth potential in Düsseldorf and in the region.
