14th October 2011 - Today, the four German transmission system operators (TSOs) published the forecast for 2012 of the expected feed-in from plants generating renewable electricity according to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the resulting EEG apportionment for the year 2012.

As required by law and based on forecasts of independent experts the TSOs have determined the EEG apportionment for 2012. Overall, the apportionment amount is of approximately 15 billion €. This includes a catch-up amount for the past twelve months of about 700 million €.

The EEG apportionment is payable for each kilowatt-hour purchased by the end consumers. According to the four TSOs this means that in 2012, consumers will contribute 3.592 cents per kilowatt-hour to the promotion of renewable energies. Hence, the EEG apportionment in 2012 is only marginally higher than in the previous year (3.530 cents per kilowatt-hour).

For the coming year, a further significant increase in feed-ins of electric energy from plants using renewable energy sources was predicted, since in recent months, numerous new power generation plants - in particular photovoltaic systems - were connected to the power grid. At the end of 2010, the installed photovoltaic capacity in Germany totalled 17.3 gigawatts (million kilowatts). The increase in 2010 was of approximately 7.4 gigawatts. For the year 2011, an added capacity of about 6.5 gigawatts is expected and for 2012 another 4.5 gigawatts. Thus, according to current forecasts, approximately 28.3 gigawatts of photovoltaic capacity will be installed at the end of 2012.

The EEG apportionment was determined in coordination with the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur - BNetzA), which has the legal mandate to monitor the determination, definition, publication, distribution of the EEG apportionment and marketing of the EEG electricity quantities and to regulate the requirements with regard to the marketing.
