Karlsruhe/Cuxhaven. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has acquired three onshore wind farms in Lower Saxony and Brandenburg with a total of 26 wind turbines and a total installed output of 52 megawatts. The wind farms are being sold by Plambeck Neue Energien AG (Cuxhaven), a project development company with many years’ experience in the development of wind farms, both onshore and offshore. The two companies intend to cooperate in the future. This means, for example, that the technical and commercial management activities relating to the turbines will be performed by Plambeck Neue Energien AG over the coming years. The purchase agreement with an investment volume of a high eight-digit figure is still subject to approval by the Federal Anti-Trust Office.

Buchholz wind farm (36 MW) and Schwienau II wind farm (10 MW) are located in the state of Lower Saxony, Alt Zeschdorf wind farm (6 MW) is located in the state of Brandenburg. Schwienau II was commissioned in January 2009, the turbines of Buchholz are successively being put into operation from early February. All other facilities are currently under construction. Twenty-one Vestas V90 turbines, each with an output of 2 MW, are employed, and five Vestas V80 turbines, each with an output of 2 MW. With a forecast average annual electricity production of around 112,000 megawatt hours, the wind farms will make a significant contribution to climate protection.

“The acquisition of the three wind farms, which increases our installed onshore wind capacity from the current 28 MW to 80 MW, constitutes a further important cornerstone in our strategy for growth in the field of renewable energies. As is generally known, we aim to virtually double our production quota from renewable energies to 20% by 2020. We have our sights set firmly on this objective and remain on course with our growth strategy even in these difficult times," says Dr. Hans-Josef Zimmer, EnBW’s chief technical officer.

“The sale of these three wind farms to EnBW demonstrates that our wind farm projects are an attractive product for environmentally-friendly power generation. We will continue to make our contribution to rapidly expanding the role of wind power as the most viable of the renewable energies. This is the focus of our project development in Germany and similarly in the international arena, both with regard to wind farm projects onshore and offshore," explain Plambeck's CEO Martin Billhardt and Bernd Paulsen, the board member responsible for operations.
