The Association of Austrian Electricity Companies launches co-operation with the EEX transparency platform – Power plant data for Austria added in the framework of the mandatory messages – APG becomes sixth co-operation partner of the transparency platform and reports wind and solar data for Austria – Messages for the German-Austrian price zone complete transnationally – Important step towards Europeanisation of the platform

Berlin, Dortmund, Vienna, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Bayreuth, 10 January 2011 – In the framework of a transparency initiative by the Association of Austrian Electricity Companies the Austrian transmission system operator Austrian Power Grid (APG) is joining the EEX transparency platform (www.transparency.eex.com) and will, thus, become the sixth equal co-operation partner in addition to the platform’s operator EEX and the four German transmission system operators 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG and TenneT TSO GmbH. In this context, APG is also responsible for the publications by the second Austrian transmission system operator – VKW Netz AG. As a result of this, fundamental data regarding Austria will also be published on the central and neutral platform from mid-2011 in the framework of the mandatory publications. These will supplement the existing voluntary messages by Austrian power plant operators. This step, hence, successfully implements the aim of gradually including other countries and expanding the transparency platform towards a European basis.

Like the four German transmission system operators APG fulfils a part of the publication requirements arising under the EU Directive 1228/2003 and its Annex – the Congestion Management Guidelines (CMG) – with the publication of generation and consumption data on this transparency platform.

The publications in the mandatory part of the transparency platform are divided into two parts. On the one hand, the current data published by German power plant operators is supplemented with data by Austrian companies, e.g. regarding the installed capacities, planned and unplanned power plant outages and regarding the planned and the actual power generation. On the other hand, APG itself also provides information on the expected and actual generation of power from wind and solar energy for Austria.

The platform for Austrian power plant data is implemented under the leadership of Oesterreichs Energie, the association representing the interests of the Austrian electricity companies. As a result, the positive experience gathered with the integration of all stakeholders in Germany is also used in Austria. ”The EEX transparency platform has set standards in Europe. With our commitment we are sending a signal for transparency in power wholesaling and the sustainability of this platform. Our positive experience can certainly help to motivate further European market participants to follow our example“, explains Barbara Schmidt, Secretary General of Oesterreichs Energie.

“Transparency in Energy Markets“ is the central and neutral platform for energy market data which fulfils the statutory publication requirements and implements voluntary commitments of the market participants. The transparency platform for generation and consumption data (www.transparency.eex.com ) was established by EEX together with the four German transmission system operators – 50Hertz Transmission GmbH, Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG und TenneT TSO GmbH – in intensive cooperation with the associations BDEW, VKU, VIK and the Federal Network Agency as well as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. EEX is in charge of the operation of the platform, which comprises plausibility checking, anonymisation, aggregation and publication of the data reported in addition to support for the reporting companies and users. Currently, 24 companies report on the platform.
