What exactly is Girls' Day?
Girls' Day is a nationwide day of action that offers girls and young women in grades 5 to 10 the chance to experience careers in technology, skilled trades, and IT up close. The aim is to spark interest, break down prejudices, and show how exciting these career fields really are for young women.
How long has Girls' Day been around and how has it changed/developed over time?
Since 2001, the day has become a real highlight: more and more companies and schools are getting involved and offering a wide range of workshops and programs. Participation numbers are rising steadily. Girls' Day has also long been an integral part of EnBW.
Where does Girls' Day take place at EnBW and are there differences between the various EnBW locations?
At EnBW, Heilbronn, Forbach, and Karlsruhe are the locations where participants can get a taste of technical apprenticeships. Netze BW offers similar opportunities in Herrenberg, Biberach, Tuttlingen, and Esslingen. The Netze BW location in Karlsruhe is an exception – there, everything revolves around IT!
What age groups is Girls' Day aimed at? Are there specific target groups?
Girls' Day is primarily aimed at female students in grades 5 to 10 – precisely the phase in which they begin to actively consider their professional future.
What does a typical Girls' Day at EnBW look like?
There is no typical Girls' Day schedule, as the day is planned and implemented individually by each EnBW location every year. This means that the program is always different. In recent years, for example, the girls have been able to take part in a wide range of workshops: they soldered their own workpieces such as LED hearts or electronic circuits, tried their hand at welding on a simulator, explored pneumatics, robotics, and VR/AR technologies, and worked with a 3D printer. They also immersed themselves in the world of electromobility and discovered exciting opportunities in the IT TechLab. Inspiring female STEM colleagues talked about their own career paths and experiences in technical professions as part of the “GirlTalks,” gave insights into their everyday work, and encouraged the participants to be bold and curious in their career orientation.
The day is therefore not only about career and study orientation, but also about sparking enthusiasm for careers in fields such as IT, skilled trades, natural sciences, and technology.
Which professions and fields are particularly highlighted on Girls' Day?
The focus is on professions in the fields of electrical engineering, IT, renewable energies, and engineering—e.g., electronics technician for industrial engineering, energy and building technology, geomatics technician, or degree programs such as electrical engineering and information technology, civil engineering, or computer science (Bachelor of Engineering).
Does EnBW offer long-term opportunities such as internships or mentoring programs that tie in with Girls' Day?
EnBW offers many different internships in a wide variety of fields for school students.
What is the aim of Girls' Day and why is this day of action particularly important for companies such as EnBW?
The aim of Girls' Day is to get girls and young women interested in STEM careers while they are still at school and to show them that they can be successful in these fields. For companies such as EnBW, the day is an important opportunity to attract young talent, counteract the shortage of skilled workers, and introduce young women to the diverse career opportunities at EnBW—including a look at EnBW as an attractive employer.
How does Girls' Day help to break down stereotypes in career choices?
Girls' Day shows girls how exciting and accessible STEM careers can be for them. Practical experience breaks down prejudices and at the same time arouses interest in these fields – and often Girls' Day is just the beginning: it opens doors to further opportunities such as internships.
Why does Girls' Day focus particularly on technical, IT, and skilled trades professions?
Technical, IT, and skilled trades professions are often dominated by men. Girls' Day aims to change this by showing girls that they too can be successful in these fields—and that these professions offer exciting, future-proof career opportunities.
How many girls take part in Girls' Day at EnBW each year?
Approximately 80-90 girls take part in Girls' Day each year.
