Why did you decide to work part-time?

Nadja: After the birth of my first son, working part-time was the perfect solution for me to do one thing without having to give up the other. Since I really enjoy my work and had just set up my team in contract and claim management at that time, I wanted to continue developing it, of course.

How do you organize your work?

Nadja: I might not work in a classic model of shared or distributed leadership, but I have organized my area in such a way that I have delegated tasks to my leadership team. Of course, this also involves a somewhat changed understanding of leadership, which is characterized by letting go, trust, providing orientation, and promoting decision-making skills – or in modern terms, empowerment.

What is critical for success in part-time work?

Nadja: In my view, it’s all about the right mindset and the commitment of everyone involved – from your own manager, the entire leadership team, and of course, the employees. Ultimately, the decisive factor is not when I do something, but how I do it. That means: how I interact with other people, how I work with other people and departments, and of course, what results I achieve.

Another key success factor is setting the right priorities and, if necessary, adapting tasks to fit the working hours. But that’s actually something you should always do, regardless of whether you work full-time or part-time: think about how to tailor topics and responsibilities in the best possible way and use your time effectively.
