Holding in Prazská energetika Holding a.s. increased to 49 percent

EnBW pushes ahead with its successful European growth strategy

Karlsruhe. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has acquired 15 percent of the shares in the Czech company Pražská Energetika Holding aA.sS. from RWE Energy AG. This takes the stake of EnBW in Pražská Energetika Holding a.s. from 34 percent to 49 percent. Pražská energetika Holding aA.sS. is itself the majority shareholder (51 percent) in the Prague-based energy company Pražská energetika a.s., which supplies electricity to the Czech capital as well as to the town of Rostocky to the north-east of Prague. The parties agreed to maintain confidentiality concerning the price for the 15-percent share package.

The increased stake in Pražská Energetika Holding a.s. extends EnBW's commitment in the Czech Republic, where it has been active since 1996. "The expansion of our holding in Prague strengthens EnBW's position in Central Europe. Our aim is to tap the es dynamic growth potential in the region together with our holdings", says EnBW Management Board member Pierre Lederer, who is also responsible for EnBW's foreign holdings. With around 700,000 energy customers and energy sales in the region of 5.4 terrawatt hours, Pražská energetika a.s. commands a market share of around 12 percent in the Czech Republicen.The most important local partner of EnBW is the city of Prague, which itself holds a 51 percent stake in Pražská energetika Holding a.s.
