Resolute commitment to the expansion of renewable energies: OEW and NEV acquire shares in the EnBW wind farm Buchholz III

OEW and NEV have invested in the EnBW onshore portfolio – which also includes the Berghülen wind farm – for some time.

Oberschwäbischen Elektrizitätswerke (OEW) and Neckar-Elektrizitätsverband (NEV) are resolutely expanding their involvement in the area of renewable energies. The two municipal associations and shareholders in EnBW each recently acquired a 24.95% shareholding in the EnBW wind farm Buchholz III. The wind farm is located in the Buchholz (Aller) and Marklendorf municipalities in the Heidekries region of Lower Saxony and was placed into operation in autumn 2017. The four Vestas V126 turbines have an output of around 13 megawatts and generated more than 32 million kilowatt hours of electricity in their first full year of operation in 2018. They can thus supply enough electricity for almost 10,000 average households and save around 15,000 tonnes of CO2.

“OEW has once again demonstrated with this investment that it supports the Energiewende and the course taken by EnBW,” emphasised its Managing Director, Barbara Endriss. Mario Dürr, Managing Director of NEV, added that “our involvement in the area of renewable energies also makes sense for our association from a financial perspective”. EnBW will also benefit according to Dirk Güsewell, Head of Generation/Portfolio Development: “We will resolutely reinvest the released capital into new projects in the area of renewable energies.”

Background:

OEW Energie-Beteiligungs GmbH, based in Ravensburg, holds a 46.75% shareholding in EnBW and is thus one of the main shareholders in the company along with the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, it holds shares in two solar parks and in the EnBW onshore wind portfolio. NEV also participates in this area and holds a 0.63% shareholding in EnBW. The municipal association based in Esslingen also holds shares in two solar parks in Baden-Württemberg.
