After 18 moths of price stability, the tariff for basic electricity supply must be adjusted / higher supplier prices lead to a higher gas tariff

Stuttgart. After EnBW Vertriebs- und Servicegesellschaft mbH was able to keep the price of electricity for its basic supply tariff stable for 18 months since the start of 2005, despite significantly higher electricity supply and procurement costs, it must now adjust this tariff. As of 1 July 2006, the unit price in the basic supply will increase by 0.80 cents (net) or by 0.93 cents / kWh (gross) and the basic price will remain the same (92.22 euros / year). For an average annual consumption of 3,600 kilowatt-hours, this corresponds to an additional charge of 2.40 euros per month (net) or of 2.79 euros per month (gross) and equates to an adjustment of 4.5 percent.

With this price adjustment, EnBW is passing on some of the procurement costs, which have been increasing significantly since the beginning of 2005, to its customers. In contrast to other energy suppliers, which already increased their prices months ago, EnBW is adjusting its prices to the increased procurement costs at a later stage. Consumers were therefore still able to benefit in the last few months from cheaper electricity tariffs.

The supplier costs for gas have also continued to increase significantly over the last few months. As a redistributor, EnBW Gas GmbH is also affected by these increased supply costs, and since the beginning of April 2006, has had to pay its suppliers much higher prices for the gas. For this reason, it is forced to pass on these additional charges as of 1 July 2006 to its customers and to adjust its gas prices. It in turn is thus also only passing on its increased supply costs to its customers with a delay, i.e. three months later. EnBW customers will thus also not be burdened with the full extent of the much higher supply costs. This was also confirmed to EnBW by an independent auditing company.

For customers of EnBW Gas GmbH (basic supply, zone tariff), the unit price will be adjusted as of 1 July 2006 by 0.25 cents / kWh (net) or 0.29 cents / kWh (gross). For an average annual consumption of a family, the adjustment will lead to additional costs of approx. 2.90 euros per month (net) or 3.36 euro per month (gross) and equates to an adjustment of 4.2 percent.

EnBW Gas GmbH is one of about 100 gas supply companies in Baden-Württemberg and focuses on supplying customers in the Greater Stuttgart area.
