Our Board of Management
The Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG consists of four members and holds joint responsibility for managing the business of the Group. Dr. Frank Mastiaux was once again appointed a member and Chairman of the Board of Management for a period of five years with effect from 1 October 2017. The other members of the Board of Management are Thomas Kusterer, Colette Rückert-Hennen and Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Zimmer.
Dr. Frank Mastiaux
Chairman of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG / Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Frank Mastiaux was born in 1964 in Essen. After completing his studies which culminated in a doctorate in chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen, he began his professional career at Veba Oel AG in 1993. Up until 1999 he held several management positions there in Research & Development, Commerce, and as a member of the management team. On an overseas posting, he also worked at CITGO Petroleum Corp in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.
Following the merger of Veba Oel AG and ARAL AG, he became Managing Director of ARAL Mineralöl-Vertrieb GmbH in 2000. Dr. Frank Mastiaux was then employed in various management positions in the BP Group in London between 2001 and 2007 after the Veba Oel/Aral Group was acquired by BP p.l.c.
Before joining EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG in 2012, he held a number of positions on the Board of Management of the E.ON Group. Amongst other things, the renewable energies business was developed under his management.
On 1 October 2012, Dr. Frank Mastiaux was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. As well as being in charge of corporate development and sustainability, his area of responsibility as “Chairman of the Board of Management” covers strategy and energy industry, communication and policy, transformation, IT, procurement and infrastructure, innovation management, sales, marketing and operations, the gas value chain and the escalation of risk management trading.

Thomas Kusterer
Member of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG / Chief Financial Officer
Thomas Kusterer, born in 1968 in Pforzheim, studied business management at the University of Mannheim until 1993.
Afterwards, he began his professional career at KPMG Deutsche Treuhand-Gesellschaft AG. He held various positions and worked in several departments, in locations such as Berlin, New York and Stuttgart, over a period of 10 years. In this time, he completed his Certified Tax Advisor Exam in 1998, his exam to qualify as a Certified Public Accountant in Vermont, USA, in 2001 and his exam to become a Chartered Accountant in 2004.
He was Head of Accounting and Taxation at EnBW from 2004 to 2009, as well as holding the position of Senior Vice President Finance from 2008. Afterwards, he moved to EDF Energy plc, London, for two years where he was a member of the Board of Management/CFO.
On 1 April 2011, Thomas Kusterer was appointed as member of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. His area of responsibility is “Finance” which covers accounting, tax, controlling, finance, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, as well as risk management, the internal control system and trade. In addition, he took over responsibility for equity investment management at the Group from 1 July 2019.

Colette Rückert-Hennen
Member of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG / Chief Human Resources
Colette Rückert-Hennen was born in Leverkusen/Opladen in 1961. Following her law degree at Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, in Bonn, legal training and second state examination in law in Düsseldorf, she started her professional career in 1990 at the law firm Dr. Klassen & Partner, in Bonn. In 1992, she moved to the tourism company Air Marin Flugreisen GmbH, in Bonn, where she was responsible for the areas of personnel, law and administration until 1999.
Mrs Rückert-Hennen moved to the international tourism company Thomas Cook Group in 1999, where she held the position of Director for Quality, Customer and Process Management for the German market until 2008. In November 2008, she was appointed Managing Director of Thomas Cook Service AG in Switzerland.
Colette Rückert-Hennen was the member of the Board of Management responsible for personnel, brand and compliance at SolarWorld AG, in Bonn, from 2011 to 2018. In 2013, she also took over responsibility for the area of information technology and became the Director of Human Resources in 2015. She headed the organisational and structural development of the successor company to SolarWorld AG – SolarWorld Industries – as Executive Vice President from August to November 2017.
Mrs Rückert-Hennen was then Managing Director at EJOT GmbH & Co. KG, in Bad Berleburg, from 2018 until February 2019. She was responsible there for the areas of personnel and law, as well as environment and building management.
Colette Rückert-Hennen has been the Chief Personnel Officer at EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG in Karlsruhe since 1 March 2019 and also the Director of Human Resources since 1 July 2019. Her area of responsibility “HR, law and compliance, auditing” covers personnel and executive management, law, auditing, compliance and data protection, regulatory management, boards and shareholder relationships, as well as health management.
Colette Rückert-Hennen has been a member of the Board of Management of Lebenshilfe e.V. (a charitable organisation), in Bonn, in a voluntary capacity since 2015.

Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Zimmer
Member of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG / Chief Technical Officer
Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Zimmer was born in 1958 in Merzig. He completed his degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on heating technology with a Diploma in Engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) at the RWTH Aachen in 1986.
After obtaining his diploma, he worked in research at the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center and later at the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, USA. He gained his Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University Karlsruhe in 1989.
Since 1989, he has held various posts within the EnBW Group, especially in the field of technology.
On 1 January 2012, Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Zimmer was appointed member of the Board of Management of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. His area of responsibility is “Technology” which covers generation (renewable, conventional, nuclear), waste management and environmental services, electricity and gas transmission grids, distribution grids (electricity and gas), grid technology, research and development, as well as occupational safety, environmental protection and crisis management..
